So the iPhone was 10 years old as of...

So the iPhone was 10 years old as of yesterday...which has me thinking.
When I hear about things the media tells us to be true like 'The Retail Apocolypse' or the fact that Amazon and online buying is killing small retailers -- all I have to say is that if you don't evolve....you die.
This is not an apacolypse, it's an evolution.
I learned quickly in economic development that every good ol' boy's club says 'this is the way it's always been' and for that reason, communities also die. And let me tell you, being young and female (yes, happy to play that card in this scenario) wasn't much fun. New ideas are met with fear, skeptisim, and push back -- where does that get us?
Growth only happens when we are uncomfortable, so if you aren't stretching your business to try something new every single day, it will soon cease to exsist. JCPenny, Sears, Macy's, Abercrombie -- how were these stores relevant any longer? They were the same today as they were when the iPhone launched 10 years ago.
So the challenge I simply ask you to consider is to find one 'hard thing' each day and do it.
One out of the box, uncomfortable new idea, strategy to research or conversation to have. We can either evolve, or we can close the doors.
That choice is ours.
Business or personal, the same theory rings true. Life isn't about coasting.
PS: If you ever use the words 'that's how it's always been done' or 'don't fix what's not broken' -- shame on you.
